The Phoenix have added lights-out shooter and former NBA small forward Joe Wieskamp to their roster for NBL25.

The 24-year-old most recently played in the NBA G League with the Maine Celtics and has played 38 NBA games with both the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors.

Wieskamp, the 46th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, stands at 6”6 (198cm) with a 6”11 (211cm) wingspan presenting a daunting prospect for any opposition.

The Iowa-born forward is known as a marksman from deep, a strong defender and has the ability to finish above the rim.

Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell believes Wieskamp fulfils the requirements of what the roster needed.

“Joe exhibits a really strong all-around ability at both ends of the floor. Whilst he is known for his elite catch and shoot game, he is also very effective in off the ball movement, not just spacing, and utilises his length when attacking the paint,” Mitchell said.

“Joe also gives us further flexibility with an ability to play down (shooting guard) or up (stretch four) if needed. That versatility extends to both sides of the ball”.

Wieskamp joins Angus Glover, Nathan Sobey, Luke Fennell, Jordan Hunter, Tom Vodanovich and Derrick Walton Jr as off-season acquisitions

Wieskamp will play with the Minnesota Timberwolves during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, before he links up with the Phoenix on August 1 ahead of the NBL25 campaign.
